Blues Dance Crash Course

Thurday, February 27th will be our Blues Dance Crash Course! No experience is necessary. This 2-hour lesson will give you a solid foundation in blues dance and get you ready for our month of blues coming up in March!

1) ACME Swing Mfg. Co

Friday, 8-11pm at Escafé, 215 Water St W

Come out an enjoy live swing music at Escafé! This band is a ton of fun, and has been around since the beginning of SwingCville. They have a great bar, good southern food, and ample room for dancing. Come on out an join the party!

2) Cville Savoy - Doin the Jive!

Saturday, 5-11:30pm

It's time once again for our 4th Saturday dance. After Friday's warmup, we'll be ready to dance all night long!

Schedule:

• 5-7pm - Come out and learn "Doin the Jive", a fantastically fun jazz routine that's been sweeping the swing dance nation. [at the Charlottesville Tango studio] - $10
• 7:30-8:30pm - Beginner swing dance lesson - included with admission
• 8:30-11:30pm - Cville Savoy dance with local DJs [at Oddfellow's Monticello Lodge] - $10

Valentine's Day dance canceled

Sadly we must cancel the Valentine's Day Sock Hop that was scheduled for tonight. Downtown is still a mess, and there's more snow on the way tonight. We will try to reschedule for sometime in the spring.

But don't give up hope! Next weekend we will have our regular Cville Savoy dance on Saturday, February 22nd, with a special guest instructor to be announced in the next day or so.  Stay tuned!

SwingCville closed today!

Well folks, it looks like we'll be snowed in. No dancing tonight, unless you feel like doing it at home in your pajamas with a cup of hot chocolate. Actually, that doesn't sound half bad!

At this point we are still planning to have our Valentine's Day Sock Hop on Friday, depending on how good the Charlottesville crews are at clearing the streets after tomorrow's apocalypse. Stay tuned for further announcements!

Valentine's Day Sock Hop

What are you doing for Valentine's Day?

Introducing our first ever Valentine's Day Sock Hop! DJ Stephen Soghoian will be spinning tunes from the early 1950's. Poodle skirts and leather jackets are encouraged. So grab your sweetheart (or come and find a new one) and head out onto the dance floor!

7:30-8:30pm - Beginner lesson 

8:30-11:30pm - Sock Hop 

$10 regular / $7 student

Blues Workshops with Joy Arico!

Surprise! We've added 4 hours of blues workshops to Bring on the Blues. Even if you're not registered for the weekend, you can still sign up for the workshops. It's only $15 for 4 hours - what a deal!

Blues Movement Intensive with Joy Arico

One goal of this course is to reinforce many basics of the blues in our own bodies first. We will also work on several solo blues moves that are fun partnered. You may or may not have heard the term "Blues Aesthetic" before. You may or may not believe in it. Joy builds all of her classes and concepts on the belief that there is an attainable, teachable "Blues Aesthetic." These basics and solo movements are designed to help each of us build it.

Bring a brand-new dancer to Cats Corner this Wednesday and they can get into the 8:30pm Swing 101 lessons for free! (Or you know, you can just not tell them - and then you get in free!)

We'll be starting brand new lesson series for February:

• 7:00pm - East Coast Swing II* - $20/month
• 7:45pm - Lindy Hop I - $20/month
• 8:30pm - Swing 101 - $5/week

* = must have taken East Coast Swing I or get instructor permission
